Why I Broke Up With Diet Coke

Isn’t it weird how nothing changes, and then suddenly – life is on the move again?

It’s strange because I never tend to realise I’m in a rut until I need a pretty big shovel. I recently made the decision to give up diet drinks – Pepsi Max, Diet Coke, 7 Up Free (the usual culprits) in an attempt to improve my health.

I was really addicted, drinking up to six litres a day – a habit that I started back in my PR days. It was always by my side. Obviously, this was wrecking my internal system. I was always bloated, lethargic, puffy and suffered from mood swings and insomnia. It had to stop – all of it. It was time for a breakup.

Since ditching it, I’ve noticed such a difference in my general attitude and concentration levels. At first I was exhausted (caffeine withdrawals) and couldn’t think properly – making mistakes and even falling asleep when seeing my family!

However, I stuck to it. After a week or so, the positive effects really started kicking in. Almost a month on, my skin looks so much better, my circulation has improved, I can concentrate clearly for the first time in months and I’d like to think I’m a lot less puffy.

All hail the water – and good riddance to diet drinks. I think it just goes to show, if you apply yourself to something, you can achieve anything.

Hope you’ve been having a great week,
