I’ve been seriously inspired recently by the beauty of treehouse hotels. Forget the ordinary terrace view and go out on a limb instead. It’s time book a stay at one of these fantastic treehouse stays…
1 Treehotel, Sweden
Contemporary, unique and seriously sleek – this tree hotel offers modern design in the middle of unspoiled nature. Located in Harads, near the Lule river, about 100 kilometers from Luleå airport, you’ll get a fantastic view of the Lule River valley – think miles of forest and the spectactular river.
The hotel offers numerous rooms, but my favourite is the ‘7th Room.’ This particular room is located ten metres up in the pines with steps and landings that take you closer to the clouds with each step. Large panoramic windows face north and along with skylights in the bedrooms allow guests to watch the magnificent northern lights.
2 Iso Syote Hotel’s Eagles View Suite, Finland
I visited Finland last year and fell in love with the stunning terrain. The Eagles View Suite allows guests to see it in even more detail – with views overlooking the pristine wilderness of Syöte National Park.
Part of Finland’s Iso Syote Hotel, the unit is skillfully constructed around a growing tree and features a stunning design with glorious floor-to-ceiling glass windows and roof – perfect for gazing out across a marvelous backdrop of untouched nature and dancing Northern Lights.
3 The Aviary At Wheatleigh Hotel, Massachusetts
Chic meets serenity at The Aviary. This two-story treetop suite was once an aviary, but has been transformed into a stunning luxury getaway. Featuring a custom-built winding staircase, vast windows and a disarming antique soaking tub, it’s full of immaculate detail.
Plus: Descend from the rooftops to make use of the resort’s 22 acres of land – complete with a wine cellar and awaiting pool.
4 Lion Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
Found within the outstanding Lion Sands Game Reserve, Kingston Treehouse, Chalkley Treehouse, and Tinyeleti Treehouse are three seriously gorgeous sky-high retreats.
Comfort meets luxury with the finest wildlife viewing spots – perfect for a day spent gazing and soaking up the sun. Ideal for a romantic getaway, guests can expect total privacy – with private dinners under the stars and a spectacular open-air bedroom on wooden platforms. Tree-mendous.
5 Fernie Castle Treehouse, Scotland
If you’re like me and love fairytales, you’ll love this enchanted hideaway. Fernie Castle Treehouse is perched in six lofty sycamores and appears to grow out of the trees with the sycamores bursting right through the floor and up out of the roof.
The ceiling is covered with stars and a painted pale moon shines onto grazing unicorns, in the centre sits a huge slipper bath under a chandelier of leaves and flowers. Set in a quiet glade 500 yards from the 14th century Fernie Castle, its isolation from the hotel is almost complete thanks to the thick surrounding woodland. One word – dreamy.
