Keeping it Quirky: SS/15 Statement Clutch Style

This season has seen the statement bag literally pop out in iconic Pop Art styles onto the screen, onto the shelves and into our hands. From Kit Kats to cats themselves, fun and quirky styles are everywhere to find this spring.

No stranger to fashion, this individualistic and creative trend was largely inspired by Moschino’s stunning AW14 show – which featured the brilliant McDonalds styled collection for us all to drool over in a different way to the usual burger and fries lust.

Following the show, numerous designers have taken heed of the trend and now quirky bags can be found nearly everywhere to buy, as well as featuring in the hottest names in fashion’s laps these past few fashion weeks. Take the audience members of Acne Studios’ recent Fall/Winter 2015 show for example:

As well as giant 3D chocolate bars, enormous fruit and leather happy meals, the statement clutch bag trend has also featured slogans and upfront Pop Art-esque language – Philip Lim’s beige ‘CASH’ is a prime example of this.

I think there’s something quite spectacular about this trend. It’s a bag that speaks for itself – and the cute designs, humorous slogans and bold attitudes that SS15 designs have shown have been nothing but adorable.

With so much to choose from, these are some of my favourites available on the high street market right now.

Beach Please - New Look 12.99
New Look’s beachy’ bag – I LOVE THIS.
FOREVER 21 11.00 'all dressed up'
Forever 21’s double sided clutch

Part dos of Forever 21′ s sassy style.
Roll the Dice clutch - Nasty Gal

Skinny Dip SNAP - ASOS - 25.00
Be bold with this ASOS design! Pair it with block colours to avoid creating an OOTT outfit – with a lack of clashing pattern, you’ll let the bag speak for itself.
Skinny Dip London - Milk Carton Cross-body Bag
Skinny Dip London’s Milk Carton Cross-body Bag. This is my favourite of the bunch – it’s both adorable and unique.
If you’re looking to get onboard the trend but are unsure of how to style such a bold look, I’d suggest minimising the rest of your outfit in order to maximise the impact of the bag without looking too silly. Be confident, be creative – and don’t be afraid of matching bold colours to create daring but sleek style.
Voila! There you have it. What are your thoughts on the statement bag trend?
